Awe and Wonderment!
You would think that after being here for a while some of the little miracles that you experience day to day will lose their lustre. But not so! We are forever delighted and intrigued by the wonderment that presents itself to us in the creatures, plants, and landscapes that are Vanuatu. So different from Enzed.
This little guy dropped from the sky on to the hard-drive case while we were watching Man Men or something similar. He was the size of a 50 cent piece!
Ever wondered where chocolate came from? Well – here it is – a Cocoa pod. Whittakers gets their beans from Ghana and the likes – but I think they should look a little closer to home! A huge industry here and all organic.
Inside the thick pod with its row of slippery beans.
Removing the beans – these delicious morsels are sucked by children as lollies. They don’t taste like chocolate but they are sweet and seductively tangy.
They are then fermented for 2 weeks and dried before being bagged and shipped for processing in Indonesia. Note: the chickens are not part of the processing!
My shadow in the pristine waters prior to going snorkelling.
Yes – it really is that pristine – and this was a rough day!
Crab takes a dip inside a coconut husk at low tide before he decides its getting a bit spa-like in there!
A germinating brown coconut washed ashore. Given the right conditions – this can be a full blown 20 metre tall productive tree in 4 years!
Phases of moonrise from our whare.
Limestone cascades and natural bush swimming pools on the Losinwei River. We swam for hours!
Big Nambas Bungalow at Tenmaru – defies gravity – perched on a rock above the ocean!
Beautiful gardens everywhere!
Outrigger on the coral sand beach on Wala Island. Hoping to appeal to the Aussie clientele!
Crazy blue flower (perhaps a member of the datura family? – I can’t confirm!)
The Friendliest Place on Earth x 3!
Not forgetting the most compelling reason that life is so good in this part of the world – the people. People are great here. Here are few examples why Vanuatu has been voted the Friendliest Place on Earth for the third time!
Getting welcomed by the Bungalow owner (and her dog) at Big Nambas Bungalow at Tenmaru
Kids posing for photos in exchange that I show them on replay.
Trying my shades for a laugh!

Getting welcomed with Salu Salu (flower necklace)
People happy to share their customs and culture with foreigners.
My counterparts’ 13 year old son working in to the night to help us plant a hibiscus hedge.
Mi Likem Vanuatu!!!
